Behind the long official name — Canad Inns Destination Centre Club Regent Casino Hotel — is a six-storey, 146-room hotel joined to Club Regent Casino, one of the two Casinos of Winnipeg under Manitoba Liquor & Lotteries. All rooms are smoke-free. An AAA inspector called them "modest", and we wouldn't argue. Room types: Two Queen, One King, One Queen and a One-Bedroom King Suite.
Casino and stage
About 1,200 slot machines (progressives and electronic table games among them), bingo, and live tables every day 5:30 pm–3 am. Manitoba sets the age at 18. The Club Regent Event Centre, open since 2014, seats 1,300 for concerts and comedy. In the hotel, Playmaker's Gaming Lounge runs VLTs 9 am to midnight.
Food
Themes at the Aaltos dinner buffets include chicken and ribs, surf and turf, roast beef and turkey; service runs Thursday to Sunday, 5–8 pm, with a Sunday brunch from 10 am to 2 pm. Drinks at Toukies, the casino lounge; quick bites at the ice-cream shop or the McDonald's.
Practical
Free parking in the casino parkade. Airport: roughly 15 km, 25 minutes. Per AAA, check-in 4 pm, check-out 11 am, no pets. Ask about Stay & Play — it adds $15 in free play per Club Card member.
Verdict
Good for a show at the Event Centre or a night of gaming; not a resort, which is why it misses our top ten.
