What it is
Langley City, May 2005: Gateway Casinos opens Cascades. Beds are supplied by the Coast-branded hotel and convention centre on the same lot: 77 rooms, refitted in 2018. Choices run from Coast Two Queens and Coast King through a corner Queen (with sofa bed) and an accessible Queen (roll-in shower) to a wet-bar Hospitality Suite and a balconied Executive Suite.
Casino
80,000 sq ft, 1,000-plus slot machines, 24 hours, with poker, bingo, blackjack and roulette. The 420-seat Summit Theatre is gone — it closed in 2018 to make space for bingo — so there's no stage.
Food and drink
Steak at ATLAS steak + fish, Gateway's signature brand. Live music and DJs at Match Eatery & Public House. Hotel breakfast at The Breakfast Room. Every Sunday from 11 am, a brunch buffet in the convention ballroom. Glacier Bar: 11 am–2 am.
Know before you go
Swimmers, look elsewhere: the Coast hotel states it has no pool. Its gym, though, never closes. Rooms are ready at 3 pm and must be vacated by noon; parking is free; pre-approved pets cost $25 a night (one) or $40 (two). Airports: Abbotsford roughly half an hour by car, YVR roughly an hour. Close by are Fort Langley and the Greater Vancouver Zoo.
Verdict
A reliable neighbourhood casino with a perfectly decent small hotel. It isn't competing with our top-ten resorts — and doesn't try.
