How our scores work
Last updated · facts verified
Six criteria, each scored 0–10, feed a weighted average — so no hotel rides one big strength to the top.
| Criterion | Weight |
|---|---|
| Rooms & views | 25% |
| Casino floor | 20% |
| Dining | 20% |
| Shows & events | 15% |
| Pool, spa & fitness | 10% |
| Getting there | 10% |
Criteria in detail
- Rooms & views — room and suite count and variety, published sizes, outlook, any recent renovation.
- Casino floor — square footage, slot and table totals, hours, poker and high-limit rooms.
- Dining — range of restaurants, a signature room, food after midnight, buffet and brunch.
- Shows & events — venue capacity, who's booked, age rules at the door.
- Pool, spa & fitness — what's open now, not what used to be.
- Getting there — airport and downtown distances, transit links, parking.
Our sources, in order
Our pecking order for facts: the hotel's own website and the casino operator's come first; provincial tourism boards and hotel-brand pages second; press coverage and Wikipedia last, and only with a name attached. Conflicting figures (Hilton Lac-Leamy's room count is the classic case) are both shown. Unpublished details are labelled as such — we don't fill gaps with guesses. Facts in this edition were checked on October 23, 2026; new openings on October 28, 2026.
One honest caveat: we did not stay at these hotels for this edition. These reviews are desk research from published information.
Who pays us
Hotels pay us nothing, and links to them carry no commission. The exception is our two online casino pages: a link there to a casino site may be an affiliate link, earning us a commission if you join, at no extra cost to you. Commissions never feed into hotel scores, and no hotel can buy its rank.
Corrections
Hotels change all the time: a restaurant closes, a pool reopens, a fee goes up. Spot something stale? Email [email protected] — we'll check it against the source and re-date the page once it's fixed.
