Ten minutes' drive from downtown Ottawa, between two lakes: a five-star Hilton wired to a Loto-Québec casino. The water is the star — indoor and outdoor pools heated twelve months a year — backed by a 17-room Amerispa, an 1,100-seat theatre and 1,400-plus slots. Canada has no more complete spa-plus-casino package.
Ideal for: A spa weekend with some blackjack on the side, or a Gatineau base for Ottawa sights.
Think twice if: Your group includes under-18s who want in on the casino, theatre or bars — all three are 18+.
Two halves, one resort
1996: Casino du Lac-Leamy opens. 2001: the Hilton, a theatre and a conference centre join it, and the Hôtel-Casino du Lac-Leamy in Gatineau takes shape. It has held five stars from Québec's CITQ since 2001 and CAA/AAA Four Diamonds since 2002. Hilton runs the hotel; the casino is Loto-Québec's.
Rooms
Tourism bodies can't agree on the total: Tourisme Outaouais lists 349 rooms, Bonjour Québec 312 plus 37 suites. Two queens? That's a Classic. A king with a vanity by the entrance? Deluxe. The highest three floors form an executive level reached by a private elevator, with service of its own. Suite options are Junior, Murphy and One-bedroom. All rooms share the basics — 47-inch TV, mini fridge, safe, bathrobes and slippers, Crabtree & Evelyn toiletries — and the hotel talks up views across Lac Leamy and Lac de la Carrière.

Pools and Amerispa
This is Lac-Leamy's trump card. Pools and hot tubs, inside and out, are heated and never close for the season. Amerispa has 17 treatment rooms; its two-hour Serenity package lists at $252 Monday–Thursday versus $308 Friday–Sunday, and spa access covers pools, whirlpools, sauna and steam bath. The fitness room is free, 24 hours.
Gaming
The gaming floor holds 48 tables and over 1,400 slot machines, along with electronic terminals, a poker lounge and a Mise-o-jeu sports betting counter. It opens 9 am–5 am from Monday to Thursday and simply stays open from Friday to Sunday. Québec's age is 18; look under 25 and expect a request for government photo ID.
Shows and bars
Théâtre du Casino: 1,100 seats theatre-style, 770 cabaret-style, 18+ except special events. Bar 7: live bands and DJs Fridays and Saturdays from 7 pm, Latin night on Thursdays. Bacchus: fireside scotch and a cigar room, for quieter evenings. Aléa: the club, 11 pm–3 am, dress code applies.
Dining
Signature: Arôme, seafood and grill with a view of Lac de la Carrière, plus a three-course Experience menu and Sunday brunch. Budget: Banco Bistro — rotisserie, pizza, steak. Comfort: L'Instant, for Montréal smoked meat, pasta and smoked-meat poutine. The poolside TGV snack bar reopens next summer.
Getting around
Downtown Ottawa is roughly 10 minutes by car (ByWard Market 4.1 km, Parliament 6.4 km, Rideau Canal skateway 7.3 km); the airport, roughly 25. Transit: STO Rapibus, Lac-Leamy station. Parking: free outdoors; valet on hold until further notice. EV charging on site. Pets welcome for $50, 34 kg maximum.
Verdict
Canada's calmest casino hotel and the most practical one for seeing Ottawa. Spa midweek — weekend pricing jumps noticeably — and leave the casino for Friday, when it never shuts.
