Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto: our review

Last updated · facts verified

Next to Woodbine Racetrack, the youngest of the Toronto area's big casino resorts — a full resort only since 2023. It brings 400 rooms, a theatre holding up to 5,000, a pool with sauna and steam room, no-charge parking and a free Pearson shuttle; the operator adds that no Canadian casino offers more slot machines to choose from.

Ideal for: Flying in, a 5,000-capacity concert, or the widest slot choice in the country.
Think twice if: Views matter to you (it's racetrack or city edge), or you want more than 388 sq ft in a standard room.

Woodbine, rebuilt

Toronto gamblers knew it as Casino Woodbine. In 2023 it came back as Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto — first the casino's opening phase on June 20, then The Hotel at Great Canadian Casino Resort Toronto on August 1. You'll find it in Etobicoke, wedged against Woodbine Racetrack and minutes from Pearson. Everything is built big; the operator goes as far as claiming Canada's largest choice of slot machines.

Rooms

Nothing here is older than 2023: 400 rooms and suites, all new. The standard rooms are identical in size — 388 sq ft — and differ by bed and outlook: Premium King, Premium Two Queen, and their "Racetrack" twins, which overlook the track (close to half the hotel does, by Destination Toronto's estimate). Accessible rooms get roll-in showers 60 inches across, plus grab bars. If 388 sq ft feels tight, there are Corner Suites with a king and a queen sofa bed, or 2-Bedroom Suites for up to six — fridge and microwave in both. Robes, blackout curtains, NEST toiletries, a mini fridge and a coffee maker are standard everywhere.

Whoever books has to be 19-plus; kids can stay, just not in 19+ zones. 4 pm in, 11 am out.

Casino

Opening-week count, via Global News: 4,800 slot machines, 145 table games. The high-limit room alone: 210-plus slots, 15 electronic multi-game poker/blackjack terminals, 25-plus live tables. Hotel and casino both run 24/7, and Great Canadian Rewards membership is free at 19+.

Theatre and track

Concert capacity at The Theatre tops out at 5,000 (galas: 1,500-plus). Tickets: Ticketmaster, nowhere else. Woodbine next door charges nothing to watch the races on most days, and parking there is free too; the fall meet listed racing through November 29, 2026.

Restaurants

Steak: Copperhorn, right on the floor. Pub: Casual, with a long list of local craft beer. Noodles: Chopsticks Noodlehouse, plus Lobster Legend Noodle Bar with Teochew and Western dishes. Pizza: Pizzaiolo, gourmet style. Quick bites: the Food Hall's Mary Brown's Express, Tim Hortons and Noodlebox. Drinks: Northern Lights Bar (19+), or the all-ages Lobby Bar Grab & Go.

Pool

Pool, hot tub, sauna, steam room, gym. Busy day? The front desk may ask you to reserve a pool time.

Shuttle, parking, pets

The free Pearson shuttle runs two blocks a day — 6 am to noon, 3 pm to 9 pm — collecting at Terminal 1 arrivals (post F3) and Terminal 3 (by gates B and G). Self-park in the covered garage costs nothing: 3,800 spaces. Valet: roughly $20 Mon–Thu, $30 Fri–Sun. Two cats or dogs maximum, under 50 lbs each, $49 a night plus $49 once for cleaning.

Before you go: the lockout

On July 23, 2026, Great Canadian locked out roughly 100 security officers (Unifor Local 1090) and pickets went up outside. Per the operator's October 2, 2026 update: hotel and casino still 24/7, restaurant hours unchanged, vehicles waved through the line at least every three minutes. Check for news before you set off.

Verdict

Toronto's answer if you're flying in, seeing a big show, or chasing maximum machine choice. Rooms are new and sensible, not big — upgrade to a Corner Suite for breathing room.
